Andria Vidler to Step Down as Allwyn UK Chief Executive
The chief executive of UK National Lottery operator Allwyn, Andria Vidler, is set to leave her post after less than a year, with industry veteran Phil Walker appointed as her interim successor.
- Andria Vidler will depart as Allwyn UK CEO on 7 September, having joined the company in October 2023.
- Former William Hill executive Phil Walker has been named as the interim chief executive, taking over leadership.
- Vidler's tenure was focused on overseeing the successful and complex transition of the UK National Lottery to Allwyn's operation.
Allwyn UK, the organisation now responsible for operating The National Lottery, has confirmed a significant change in its senior leadership. The company announced that its chief executive, Andria Vidler, is set to step down from the prominent role. Her final day as CEO will be 7 September. To ensure a period of continuity and a smooth handover, Vidler will not sever ties with the business immediately; she is scheduled to remain with Allwyn in a formal advisory capacity until the end of October 2024.
Vidler's tenure at the helm of Allwyn UK began in October 2023. Her appointment was a strategic one, focused on a single, critical objective: overseeing the monumental transition of the UK National Lottery's operations. This involved taking over the stewardship from the long-standing previous operator and launching the fourth National Lottery licence, a process of immense operational and public significance. Her departure follows the successful completion of this foundational phase for Allwyn's UK business.
Experienced executive to take interim charge
As Vidler prepares for her exit, Allwyn has named an experienced industry veteran, Phil Walker, to take charge. Walker is set to be appointed as the interim chief executive, assuming leadership responsibilities for the lottery operator from September.
Walker brings to the role a substantial and relevant background forged within the competitive UK gambling market. His most notable prior experience includes a six-year period at the bookmaking giant William Hill, where he was entrusted with several high-level executive posts. During his time there, he demonstrated his capability in managing complex, large-scale consumer-facing businesses.
Specifically, his senior positions at William Hill included the role of online managing director, giving him oversight of a crucial digital division. He also served as the company's chief commercial officer (CCO), a position that involves broad strategic and revenue responsibilities. This experience in both digital and commercial leadership will be pertinent to the future development of The National Lottery under Allwyn.
Before accepting the interim CEO position at Allwyn, Walker's most recent professional involvement was as a non-executive director for City Gaming Limited. This role kept him connected to the governance and strategic direction of companies within the gaming sector, ensuring his knowledge of the current market landscape is up to date as he takes on this new challenge.
