Tim Miller to Depart Gambling Commission in 2026 After Decade of Service

The UK Gambling Commission has confirmed that Tim Miller, its Executive Director of Policy & Research, is set to leave the regulatory body in September 2026. The departure will mark the conclusion of a ten-year period of service for Mr Miller at the Commission.

After leaving the Commission, Mr Miller will transition to a new international role that operates outside the British regulated gambling market. His new responsibilities will involve advising governments, regulatory authorities, and other global organisations on the development and supervision of gambling regulatory frameworks.

White Paper and Regulatory Reform

A central focus of Mr Miller's work in recent years has been to lead the Commission's response to the government's Gambling Act Review. He was given principal responsibility for directing the regulator's extensive programme of work to implement the policy changes set out in the White Paper.

Under his direction, the Commission has introduced a series of significant reforms affecting the industry. Mr Miller’s oversight covered the implementation of new rules for online age verification, the introduction of financial vulnerability checks, stricter controls on the design of remote gambling games, and new regulations for direct marketing communications.

A New Era for Gambling Research

Throughout his tenure, Mr Miller also played a pivotal role in strengthening the Commission's research and evidence functions. He was a leading figure in the project to enhance the regulator's evidence base, a key part of which was the creation of a new national gambling survey.

He oversaw the complete development and launch of the Gambling Survey for Great Britain. This large-scale research initiative has been described as the biggest survey of its kind anywhere in the world, designed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of gambling behaviours and harms.

The announcement of Mr Miller's planned departure comes as the Gambling Commission continues to be led by Sarah Gardner, who is serving as the organisation's Acting Chief Executive.
