Gambling Commission Suspends Licences of BresBet and Bet St George

The United Kingdom's gambling regulator has suspended the operating licences of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd. The Gambling Commission confirmed the decision was effective immediately, halting the companies' ability to offer gambling services.

The suspension affects the online operations of bresbet.com, run by BresBet Ltd, and betstgeorge.com, operated by Bet St George Ltd. This regulatory action follows initial inquiries by the Commission which raised concerns over potential compliance breaches.

Social Responsibility and AML Concerns

According to the Commission, the suspensions were enacted due to suspected failings in both social responsibility policies and anti-money laundering (AML) procedures at the two firms. The regulator is now conducting a formal review of both licences under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005.

The suspension will remain in place while the review is carried out. The operators will only be permitted to resume activities if they can satisfy the Commission that they are operating in a compliant manner.

Customer Funds and Communication

The regulator has clarified that the suspension does not prevent customers of either bresbet.com or betstgeorge.com from accessing their accounts to withdraw any outstanding funds. The Commission expects both operators to treat their customers fairly and to keep them fully informed of any developments that impact them during this period.

BresBet Ltd holds operating licence number 065252-R-340096-002, while Bet St George Ltd is licensed under number 067818-R-341699-001. The Commission has advised that customers can contact the companies through their websites.
